Earlier this week, an English class from our CYO attended the New York State Fair! This trip was made possible by tickets provided through the Fair and community partners.Â
Cathy Garvey, an English teacher at the CYO, led the outing. The students are refugees from around the world who will soon be taking citizenship classes. The class thoroughly explored the fair. They learned about fire safety in the House of Hazards, visited the Diary Building for 25 cent milk, saw the Pan-African Village, walked through the cow barn, and checked out the military displays. A highlight of the morning was watching dancers perform at the Iroquois Indian Village. Several students especially enjoyed the long houses, saying that they reminded them of villages they’d left behind.Â
The Fair visit was a first for the students! You can check out their experience below. We’re very grateful to the NYS Fair and community partners and supporters who help make days like this possible.Â
