CYO Summer Academy at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo

Bridget Dunn, Communications Coordinator

This week, several groups from our CYO Summer Academy were able to visit the Rosamond Gifford Zoo! Our thanks to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and the Onondaga County Parks system for making this visit possible.

Our CYO Summer Academy is an educational and recreational day program for the children of families who arrived in Syracuse as refugees. The program is offered through our Refugee Resettlement Services and provides activities for kids throughout the day. There are field trips throughout the area, including this zoo field trip, and lots of play and education around the CYO building on the Northside. The program is especially important for recently arrived kids because it gives them an introduction to American style schooling.

This particular group was eight kids between the ages of 7 and 9, plus three CYO staff memebers. Take a look at their adventures in the photos below! The penguins, elephants and tigers were special favorites.
